Ski hills in the Czech Republic had reason to be happy last year, seeing lots of snow and consequently a boost in business. So far, this season is shaping up quite nicely as well (although there hasn't been snow in Prague). Radio Prague took the opportunity to hit the slopes at two of five hills run by operator Mega Plus s.r.o.
Jaromír Jágr has made his first public appearance since news of his return to his hometown club Kladno sparked a wave of Jágrmania in the Czech Republic. Speaking to a scrum of journalists on Thursday, the ice hockey superstar discussed where things had gone wrong for him in the NHL this season – and said he would do his best to satisfy Kladno’s supporters.
A hat made in honour of Jiří Raška, the 1968 Olympics ski jumping champion, that is the highlight of the 2018 Winter Olympic collection, is reported to be hugely successful. With just over two weeks to go to the start of the Winter Olympics in South Korea the hat is sold out and Alpine Pro, the company that produced the Czech Olympics outfit, is scrambling to put several thousand more pieces on the market ahead of the games.
Temperatures close to zero have got most of us muffled up in scarves and woolly hats, but for the Spartan-living members of the Czech Polar Bears Club it’s a breeze and they work hard to convince others about the benefits of taking cold showers and enjoying a December dip in the Vltava River. Last weekend they engaged in a colorful ceremony of “christening” new members.
