One of the biggest events in women’s tennis, the WTA Finals, got underway in Singapore on Sunday. Although Czech competitors got off to a losing start, many, including the Martina Navrátilová herself, say the fact that four players from the Czech Republic made it to the finals – is a positive sign for Czech tennis.
For the fifth year in a row, the Prague Czech Chess Association, in cooperation with Czech Railways, is organising a rather unusual international chess tournament. It takes place on board a train that goes from Prague to Vienna and back. Ruth Fraňková went to check-out the event and has more in this edition of In Focus:
This Wednesday marks 25 years since Czech hockey legend Jaromír Jágr scored his first NHL goal. On October 7, 1990, he beat Chris Terreri – then-goalie for the New Jersey Devils. Jágr has since scored an additional 721 regular season goals and will no doubt add more in his 22nd season. What’s more, the forward has promised to grow back the famous mullet hairstyle he sported when he first joined the Pittsburgh Penguins.
