In the last two years Czech road bike racer Roman Kreuziger, who rides for Team Astana, finished in the top 10 in the world’s most prestigious cycling ‘ordeal’, the Tour de France. 2011, though, won’t see a three-peat. After a tough first week in which he suffered several crashes, and a second in which he languished, Kreuziger is currently in just 112th spot. Now his only real option remaining is to make a mark in Stage 17 on Wednesday, before the race moves to steeper heights in the Italian Alps.

The former head of the Czech football association, František Chvalovský, has been sentenced to ten years in prison after being convicted of credit fraud. Mr Chvalovský was once a major figure in Czech football, but has spent the last 10 years trying – so far unsuccessfully – to defend himself from fraud charges.

Some of the Czech media labelled it Super Monday – the 4th round at Wimbledon in which three Czech players were vying to make it to the tournament’s quarterfinals. In the end, only one of the three did: not Tomáš Berdych (a finalist at Wimbledon last year and the World No. 7) and not the lesser-known Petra Cetkovská, whose surprise run was ended by German player Sabine Lisicki.
