Czech tennis player Karolína Plíšková has reached the semi-finals of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. The world number three defeated Garbine Muguruza of Spain 7:6, 7:6. Plíšková will now face Svetlana Kuznetsova for a place in the final. Last year, the Czech player finished in the semi-finals at Indian Wells.
Czech tennis player Karolína Plíšková has reached the quarter-finals of the BNP Parisbas Open in Indian Wells. The world number three was leading Timea Bacsinsky 5:1 in the first set when the Swiss player withdrew due to injury. Plíšková will now face Garbine Muguruza of Spain for a place in the last four. Last season the Czech reached the semi-finals at Indian Wells, which is sometimes dubbed the “fifth Grand Slam” tournament.
Czech tennis player Lucie Šafářová has advanced to the finals at the WTA tournament in Budapest, after beating Germany`s Carina Witthöft 6:4, 6:3. It is Šafářová`s first singles final since she won Prague Open last year. The one-time world number five will be playing for the eighth title in her career.
Christmas came early for Czech tennis fans on Monday with a visit to Prague by tennis great Roger Federer, along with Tomáš Berdych, to promote the inaugural edition of the Laver Cup (named after Australian legend Rod Laver). The new tournament will be held in Prague in September, two weeks after the US Open, pitting six top European players against the best of the Rest. The world, that is.
18 time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer who is in Prague after a ten year break on Monday greeted fans on Old Town Square, accompanied by Czech tennis player Tomáš Berdych. The tennis star is here to promote the Laver Cup which is to take place in Prague in September. Federer will return to Prague for the event which will be held at Prague’s O2 Arena on September 22 to 24.
