Czech tennis player Barbora Strýcová teamed with India’s Sania Mirza have won the women’s doubles final at Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo. Playing their third tournament together, the Czech-Indian duo secured their second title with a straight sets win over China’s Chen Liang and Zhaoxuan Yang 6:1, 6:1. Meanwhile, Czech tennis player Tomáš Berdych has failed to reach the final of the St. Petersburg Open. The third-seeded Czech was beaten in the men’s singles on Saturday by Alexander Zverev
The Czech tennis player Kateřina Siniaková has reached the final of the Japan Women’s Open in Tokyo. After a 6-3 6-0 victory over Shuai Chang of China on Saturday the 20-year-old is hoping to lift the first WTA title of her career. She will face Christina McHale of the US in the final. Siniaková, ranked 65th in the world, was beaten by Laura Siegemund of Germany in her only previous WTA final, in Sweden’s Bastad in July.
Czech tennis player Karolína Plíšková has reached her first ever Grand Slam final after defeating world number one and top seed Serena Williams 6:2, 7:6 in the semi-final of the US Open. It is the first time in 23 years that a Czech has reached the finals of the women’s competition. Jana Novotná last achieved that in 1998. Tenth seeded Plíšková has also ended the American's reign as world number one. The 24-year-old Czech will face German second seed Angelique Kerber in the final.
In tennis, Czech player Karolína Plíšková has won her way through to her first singles Grand Slam quater- final. Plíšková turned around the US Open match against Venus Williams and took the deciding tie break. The final score was 4:6, 6:4, 7:6. Plíšková will now face Croatian Ana Konjuh who was unseeded in the tournament.
Petra Kvitová has been knocked out of the US Open in straight sets by second-seed Angelique Kerber of Germany. Kerber advanced to the quarterfinals at Flushing Meadows by defeating the Czech on Sunday night: the final score was 6-3, 7-5. Kvitova, who recent showed promising form with a bronze at the Olympic Games in Rio, made 43 unforced errors in the match, including seven double faults. The last double came on match point.
