NHL forward Jiří Tlustý, 28, is bound for the Finnish Elite League after signing a deal with Liiga’s Karpat club. Last season the winger notched four points in 30 games with the New Jersey Devils. Originally selected thirteenth overall in the 2006 NHL draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs, Tlustý played in 446 NHL regular season games since his debut in 2007-08.
Jaromír Jágr reached a career milestone on Thursday, scoring his 750th NHL goal, putting him third on the league’s all-time scoring list, behind only Gordie Howe (who scored 801) and Wayne Gretzky (894). The Kladno-native is also third on the list of career points, 17 points shy of Mark Messier (1,887).
A new feature-length documentary film about the great Czech ice hockey player Jaromír Jágr is set to begin shooting later this year, iDnes.cz reported on Thursday. Producer Jiří Jurtin told the news site that the star had given permission for the making of 68, which refers to the number he wears on his jerseys. Mr. Jurtin said a top director would helm the documentary, while Czech and international interviewees have been lined up for the project, which will also draw on archive material. The film is due to premiere in autumn next year, when the NHL is celebrating its 100th anniversary.
Legendary Czech winger Jaromír Jágr was one of the draws in an NHL pre-season match on Sunday between his team the Florida Panthers and the Dallas Stars at the Budweiser Gardens arena in London, Ontario, home of the London Knights junior hockey team, news site idnes.cz reports. According to the idnes, interest in tickets was high not only among locals but also tourists. In the match, the Panthers edged the Stars by a score of 2:1. The regular NHL season, in which teams play 82 games, begins on October 12.
Czech goalies have gotten ice time in pre-season matches in the NHL: David
Rittich, who played his last two seasons for Mladá Boleslav, took to the
ice for the first time for his new team the Calgary Flames. Rittich came on
in the third period in a game against Winnipeg and stopped six shots and
allowed no goals. The final score was 3:0 for the Flames.
The Washington Capitals' Vítek Vaněček played the opening 28 minutes against the Carolina Hurricane, allowing a single goal. The Caps lost the match 2:1 in overtime. The 20-year-old goalkeeper got the start again and played the full 60 minutes against the Montreal Canadiens but allowed five goals on 29 shots. The final score was 5:2.
