After half-a-year’s absence 32 year-old Czech forward Martin Havlát returned to the ice on Wednesday for the San Jose Sharks. The Sharks lost 4-3 in overtime to the L.A. Kings but lead in the NHL. Havlat’s return was welcomed by the team captain; at the club another Czech player, 19 year-old Tomáš Hetrl, has so far had an excellent season, not long ago scoring four goals in a single game, one of them a sensational between-the-legs shot that beat New York Rangers goalie Martin Biron.
The Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the New Jersey Devils in their last outing in the NHL, leaving the Devils’ with only one regular-time win in their first nine games. Star forward Jaromír Jágr, who joined the hockey club after going all the way to the Stanley Cup finals with Boston, expressed his frustration on-line. The player has two goals and four assists in the season so far.
Tomáš Hertl, a Czech rookie at the San José Sharks, is having a dream debut in the National Hockey League. Indeed, with six goals in only three games, the 19-year-old tops the league’s scoring charts. On Tuesday, Hertl scored four times in the Sharks’ 9:2 demolition of the New York Rangers, becoming the youngest player to do so since 1988. His fourth goal, when he flicked the puck past the goalie from behind his legs, has gone viral on the web. I spoke to Tomáš Hertl’s Prague-based agent Robert Spálenka about the player’s amazing start

The Czech ice hockey star Jaromír Jágr has scored his first goal since joining the New Jersey Devils and ended a barren streak lasting 26 games. Interestingly Jágr got his first ever goal in the NHL on the same date, October 7, 23 years ago, as a rookie with Pittsburgh Penguins.
