Czech hockey star Jaromír Jágr got off to a dream start with his
new NHL club the Dallas Stars. On Saturday the forward, who recently
in the Czech league during the NHL lockout, was involved in all four goals
by his club, scoring two and earning two assists against the Phoenix
Coyotes. The Stars edged the Coyotes 4:3.
In other NHL action, goalie Tomáš Vokoun got off to a good start with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The team’s No. 2 goalie stopped 31 of 34 shots by the New York Rangers after a 10-month layoff due to a groin injury and the NHL lockout. The Penguins won the game 6:3.

Czech hockey star Jaromír Jágr departed the Czech Republic at 8:45 on Thursday morning to return to the United States and the NHL where he is set to play for the Dallas Stars. The 40-year-old forward played until now for his hometown team Kladno, helping turn the club into a force in the Czech league during the NHL lockout. The NHL, which normally begins in the autumn, will see a shortened season of 48 matches. The lockout lasted 113 days before a new collective bargaining agreement was reached between owners and the players’ association, the NHLPA. The exact date for the start of the season has not yet been announced.
Hockey club Třinec has a chance to reach second spot in the Extraliga if players can clinch a win on Thursday against league leaders Plzeň on Thursday evening. Třinec is currently in third place behind Zlín and 11 points behind the leaders. To earn three points, however, the club will have to beat Plzeň on home ice.
The Czech ice hockey star Jaromír Jágr made a surprise final appearance for his hometown club Kladno on Tuesday night before heading back to the US following the ending of the NHL lockout. Jágr, who is 40, had previously said his NHL club Dallas had instructed him not to play again for Kladno. However, in the end he took to the ice to the delight of the home fans and provided two assists to help the team overcome Litvínov 3:2. His presence helped turn Kladno into one of the biggest draws in the Czech Extraliga.

The Czech under 20 national hockey team beat Switzerland 4:3 on Friday to finish fifth at the world championships in Ufa. The Czechs were losing 1:0 after the first 20 minutes but won the second period 3:1, and successfully defended their lead in the final stage of the game. The Czech team also ended fifth at the previous under 20 world championships in Canada last year.
The Czech national hockey team lost 0:7 to the United States in the quarterfinals of the under 20 world championships in Russia on Wednesday, meaning they cannot now a medal at the event. The Czechs conceded five goals while playing short-handed, and lost the second period 5:0. The Czechs will play either Russia or Switzerland for fifth place on Friday.
The Czech junior hockey team won its second straight game at the U20 Championships on Sunday defeating Latvia by a score of 4:2. The game was close throughout: the Czechs twice led by one goal, both times Latvia squared the game. The Czech squad was only able to jump ahead some six minutes from the end of the 3rd period. Three of the team’s goals came on the powerplay. In order to reach the knockout quarterfinals stage the Czechs need – at worst – a draw with Switzerland.
