The reigning domestic football league champions Viktoria Plzeň got off to
a winning start in a game that raised the curtain on the 2018–2019 season

Sparta Prague football club have completed the signing of the Ghanaian
player Benjamin Tetteh from Bohemians 1905. The striker, who is 20, has
been training with Sparta since the middle of last month. He has signed a
four-year deal with the country’s richest club.
Tetteh began his career in Europe with Belgium’s Standard Liege and also had a loan spell at the Czech club Slovácko.
In football, Czech manager Ivan Hašek will replace Diego Maradona as coach
of Al Fujairah, a team in the United Arab Emirates.
Hašek, a former Czech international, has signed a one-year deal to return to the club he previously managed in 2014/15, the news website Týden reported on Wednesday. Hašek was formerly chairman of the Czech football association and coach for the national team.
Czech football club Dukla Prague has sacked Jaroslav Hynek, the team’s manager since September 2016, following a disappointing season. He had guided Dukla to a respectable 7th-place finish in the 2016–17 season, and in May 2017 was signed to a new two-year contract. But this year the club slid to an 11th-place finish in the Czech First League, and his contract was cut short. Hynek took over as Dukla manager when Jaroslav Šilhavý left for Slavia Prague, last year's champions.
The legendary Czech footballer Tomáš Rosický will end his career with a
star-studded beneficiary game at Prague’s Sparta stadium on Saturday.
The game will pit international stars such as Cesc Fábregas, Mathieu Flamini, Van Persie, Aleksandr Hleb and Jens Lehmann against a home team including Pavel Nedvěd, Karel Poborský, Jan Koller, Petr Čech and Milan Baroš.
The game, which is hopelessly sold out, was due to start at 5pm, but had to be pospond due to heavy rain. There is an accompanying exhibition and gifts for fans.
Czech football team defeated Nigeria 1:0 in the last international friendly
match ahead of the World Cup in Russia, which took place in Vienna on
Wednesday. Czechs dominated the first half of the match with the goal
scored by Tomáš Kalaš in the 25th minute of play.
The Czech Republic failed to reach the World Cup, which begins next week. Their campaign to try to qualify for the 2020 European Championships will get underway after the summer.
