A fan of the football club Victoria Plzeň has died following a skirmish in
a pub in Kutná Hora. The man died of his injuries on Friday at a hospital
Police say they have identified a suspect in the death of the 36-year-old Plzeň supporter and have filed a motion for his arrest.
The suspect is allegedly a regular at the Kutná Hora pub, where the deceased had been watching his team play a televised away game against a Belgian club.
It is unclear whether football featured in the clash between the two men.
The legendary Czech striker Josef Kadraba has died at the age of 85, the
football club Slavia Prague reported on Twitter on Monday.
Kadraba played for Slavia in the years 1965-1967 helping the club return to the first league.
He played 17 matches for the Czechoslovak national team, scoring 9 goals altogether.
In the 1962 FIFA World Cup he scored a decisive goal against Yugoslavia, helping the Czechoslovak team win the silver medal.
Reigning Czech football champions Slavia Prague maintained their perfect
start to the new season by sailing past Teplice 5:1 away in the second
round. Teplice were reduced to 10 men for almost 45 minutes of Sunday
evening’s game after Jakub Mareš was sent off.
Viktoria Plzeň and Opava also have six points from two outings after beating Liberec and Příbram, respectively, at the weekend.
The Czech Republic’s Under-19s football squad lost to Ireland in their
final group game on Sunday evening in Yerevan, Armenia by a score of 1:2.
Ireland scored first. While the Czechs would equalise with 10 minutes to go, thanks to a clever back-heel by Dynamo Dresden forward Vasil Kušej, Ireland would retake the lead thanks to Celtic’s Barry Coffey.
Like Ireland, the Czech Republic went into the match with a loss to France, the favourites, but a goal-free draw with Norway condemned them to last place in Group B.
Sunday’s result and France’s win over Norway ensured Ireland would finish second in the group. Ireland next face Portugal while France take on Spain.
The Czech Republic’s best showing at the under-19 European Championship’s came in 2011 where they finished as runners-up.
This year was the first time since 1942 that Slavia Prague football club secured the double, meaning lifting both the league title and the domestic cup. The latter trophy was celebrated by Slavia – who famously wear red and white – at their own Eden stadium following a 3:2 victory over their old foes Sparta Prague on the final day of the season.
The former Czech football goalkeeper Petr Čech has been appointed
technical and performance adviser at English club Chelsea, where he enjoyed
the greatest successes of his playing career. Čech, who retired at the end
of last season, won 13 trophies with Chelsea, including the Champions
League and four Premier League titles.
The 37-year-old said he was very privileged to have the chance to rejoin the London club and help continue the success it has had in the last 15 years.
The Czech Republic beat Montenegro 3:0 in Olomouc on Monday night in a
qualification game for next year’s European Championships. Jakub Jankto
and Patrik Schick found the net for the hosts, while the visitors’ Boris
Kopitovič scored an own goal. That victory was the second in a few days
for the Czechs and puts them in second place in their group, behind

The Czech national football team takes on Bulgaria on Friday, in their
second qualifying match for the EURO 2020. The Czechs suffered a
humiliating defeat in their first match in March, losing 5:0 to England.
Among the newcomers to appear in Prague’s Generali Arena on Friday will
be Michal Sadílek, a 20-year-old midfielder playing for PSV Eindhoven, and
the forward Libor Kozák of Slovan Liberec.
The Czech team will next face Montenegro on June 10.
