An exhibition mapping the history of six panelak housing estates in Prague got underway on Thursday at the city’s Dejvice district. It is the last in a series of fourteen exhibitions dedicated to the communist-era prefabricated apartment blocks around the Czech Republic, prepared by the Museum of Creative Arts.
An exhibition about the famous Tugendhat Villa by Mies van der Rohe is currently on display in the City of Prague Museum. The travelling exhibition on the history of the UNESCO landmark was prepared by the Villa Tugendhat Study and Documentation Centre and has already made 25 stops around the world, including the Royal Institute of British Architects in London, or the Bohemian National Hall in Manhattan.
British Stuckist artist Joe Machine is best known for his raw paintings depicting violence, sex and crime; all images drawing on his childhood. The exhibition is the 100th to be held at the Rudolfinum since the gallery was opened in 1994. It will be open to the public from Thursday and runs until November 26. Admission is free.
The Vltava River at Prague’s Mánes exhibition hall turned blood-red on Monday afternoon, after activists from an art group calling themselves Bolt958 poured an unknown substance into the water. The group charged that the famous art gallery “was bleeding”. The protest was over how the space, in their view, is being misused.
An exhibition dedicated to the famous shoe designer Manolo Blahnik is now on display at Prague’s Kampa Museum. Entitled Manolo Blahnik: The Art of Shoes, the exhibition explores the nearly 50-year-long career of the visionary designer. The iconic shoes, which many women know from films and TV series, such as the Sex and the City or Marie Antoinette, will be on display at the Kampa Museum until November 12.
