Dlouhá cesta or Long Journey is the title of a new book by the Czech UK-based author Petr Horáček. The talented illustrator has published dozens of children’s books in Britain, wining a number of awards around the world, but Dlouhá cesta is his first title written in Czech for Czech children. Radio Prague went to the book launch.
The exhibition by top Czech sculptor Krištof Kintera at Prague’s Galerie Rudofinum has attracted over 120, 000 visitors and has become the fourth most successful exhibition in the Czech Republic in the past four years. Entry to the exhibition, entitled Nervous Trees, is free, with the event prolonged until December 27.
Jan Zrzavý’s painting Calvary in Locronan sold for a record 17.4 million crowns in an auction at Kodl Gallery in Prague on Sunday. It is the highest price ever paid for a Zrzavý painting in the Czech Republic. The starting price was six million crowns. Zrzavý’s Fantastic Landscape, an oil on canvas, sold for 14.4 million at an auction last year.
The annual Czech Press Photo competition, which evaluates both professional and amateur journalistic photographs from around the world, has selected the winners of the 2017 competition. And for the first time, the winner is a photograph taken not with an expensive camera, but with a simple cell phone.
Czech Foreign Minister Lubomír Zaorálek and Israeli Ambassador to the Czech Republic David Meron on Thursday opened an exhibition recalling the contribution of Czechoslovakia’s first president, Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, and his son, Jan, who later became foreign minister, to the creation of the State of Israel. It was sold in auction for 8.0 million crowns last year after being discovered in a Prague collection.
Some of Preisler’s designs also found expression on some of the best known designs on Prague’s art deco houses and buildings.
Designblok, Prague International Design Festival opened today Prague. The festival, now in its ninetheenth year, boasts that it is the largest showcase of fashion and design in Central Europe. The event is mainly based in the historic Výstaviště Praha exhibition grounds, and will feature the works of 304 designers, this year guided by the overarching theme of food.
