President Miloš Zeman continues to meet individually with members of the
proposed minority government led by Andrej Babiš, ahead of the
government’s official appointment next week.
Tomáš Hüner, set to be the next Industry and Trade Minister, met with the head of state at Lány Chateau on Sunday. He told journalists after the meeting that priorities for him were energetics, mineral resources and clean-up of environmental damages.
The new government is to be named on December 13.
The investment group PPF of Petr Kellner has signed an agreement on the
purchase of 100 percent shares in the Plzen engineering company Škoda
Transportation. The sales deal was confirmed by PPF spokeswoman Zuzana
Migdalová, though she did not specify how much PPF paid for the company.
According to the business news site ihned it was over 10 billion crowns. With its 5,300 employees, Škoda Transportation is the biggest transport engineering company in Central and Eastern Europe.
Czech car maker Škoda Auto is reported to have sold 107,400 cars in
October, which is an increase by 9.7 percent on the previous year. The
company’s sales went up by 11.3 percent in Europe, by 23.8 percent in
Russia and by 7.7 percent in India.
Despite a drop in sales, Škoda Octavia remains the company’s best-selling model with 37,100 cars delivered to the market in October, followed by the Škoda Rapid with 18,300 cars.
Energy producers in the Czech Republic have tabulated that damage from
hurricane-force winds two Sundays ago, reached almost 100 million crowns.
The storm, which began at around 12 AM on October 29, and lasted throughout
the night and into the next day, brought down trees and power lines; four
people were killed by falling trees. On the country’s highest peak,
Snežka, winds reached the speed of 180 km/h. The head of energy giant
ČEZ, Daniel Beneš, said that ČEZ had seen damage worth more than 70
million crowns but said it would have no impact on company results as the
firm was insured against natural calamities of this kind.
Energy company E.ON posted damage at around 20 million crowns.
