A major agricultural machinery trade fair got underway in Brno in Sunday.
Techagro is the third biggest event of its kind in Europe and is held every
two years. The current edition features 720 companies from 37 countries.
Organisers say they expect over 100,000 visitors for the trade fair, which continues until Thursday.
The European Commission has added Prague ham to the EU list of
“traditional specialities guaranteed”. This was confirmed by the Czech
Agriculture Ministry on Friday.
The request for Prague ham to be given this status was lodged six years ago. Four other Czech meat products – traditional salamis and sausages (Lovecký salám, Liptovský salám, Špekáčky and Spišské párky) are already on the list.

The state-owned brewery Budějovický Budvar will invest 600 million crowns into production and development, news site iDnes reports, citing spokesman Petr Samec. According to the daily, new investment will go towards a new logistics centre and a new production line for its bottled beer. The spokesman told the daily, that the brewery was almost at full production capacity currently. Last year, the firm invested 700 million crowns and by 2020 the sum will be two billion crowns.

Jourová wants the double standard of food products in the EU to be put on
the list of illegal business practices in the EU.¨The commissioner made
the announcement at a press briefing in Prague on Friday.
This means that consumers would be in a position to sue a company over the practice. The list is to be reviewed by the Commission in April.
Meanwhile, a special working group made up of representatives from 15 EU member states is working on a control mechanism which would gradually root out the practice.
