Suspected killer of Czech tourists in Albania goes on trial

The suspected killer of a Czech couple who were shot dead while driving in the Albanian mountains went on trial in Tirana on Thursday. The suspect, Sokol Fran Mjacaj, 25, pleaded guilty, having confessed to boarding the couple’s car after threatening them with an automatic weapon. After driving for a short distance, a struggle is said to have broken out in which he shot them both dead. He had previously served a ten-year-sentence for murdering a 13-year-old boy in an attempt to steal his gold necklace. If convicted he could face 25 years to a life sentence.
