New US ambassador takes office

Former White House advisor Norman Eisen took office on Friday as the US ambassador to the Czech Republic, presenting his credentials to Czech President Václav Klaus. The position has been vacant for two years following the departure of Ambassador Eisen’s predecessor Richard Graber.

Mr Eisen was appointed by US President Obama directly and can therefore only serve for one year, unless his term of office is prolonged by the Senate. After leaving Prague Castle the new US ambassador held his first working meeting with Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg.
