Ms Šlechtová said after the meeting that the US, UK and France have clearly shown that the use of chemical weapons can not be tolerated and that the consequences of attack on civilians have been minimized. She also said that the Czech soldiers taking part at the UN peace mission in the Golan Heights and the Czechs working at the embassy in Damascus were safe.
The Czech government responded in favor of the strike on Syria launched by
the US, Britain and France. The attack sends a clear message to those who
do not shy away from using chemical weapons, the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs said in a press release on Saturday morning.
Foreign Minister Martin Stropnický also confirmed on that as NATO ally the Czech Republic had been informed about the attack, although he didn't specify whether he was informed of the attack in advance. Prime Minister Andrej Babiš said the attack on Syria had been inevitable, emphasizing the Czech Republic clear stance against the use of chemical weapons.
The presidential office, on the other hand, condemned the attack and accused certain media and non-governmental organizations of supporting the war.

Oscar-winning director Miloš Forman, known for films such as One Flew Over
The Cuckoo’s Nest and Amadeus has died at the age of 86, the Czech News
Agency reported on Saturday. The Czech-born, US-based director died on
Friday in the United States after a short illness, his wife Martina told
Forman was a leading personality of the Czech New Film Wave of the 1960s. He first attracted international attention in the mid-1960s with his films Black Peter and The Loves of a Blonde , an Oscar nominee for best foreign-language film, and The Firemen’s Ball, which was immediately banned by the communist regime in Czechoslovakia.
Two of his US films, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest and Amadeus, have gained him an Academy Award for Best Director and One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, adapted from Ken Kesey’s 1962 novel, became the first film since 1934 to win all five major Academy Awards. He earned his third and last Oscar nomination in 1996 for The People vs. Larry Flynt, a drama about the founder of Hustler magazine.
The Czech-born filmmaker is also known for two features about controversial Americans, The People vs. Larry Flynt and Man on the Moon.
A pile-up involving a number of transport trucks and a delivery truck on
the D1 highway on Friday saw traffic blocked for 3.5 hours on the 178th
kilometre near Brno.
Three people were injured in the accident.
Police on site redirected traffic to the closest exit. The blockage led to a six-kilometre-long traffic jam.
The year 2017 turned out to be a positive year with no drownings registered
at river sluices in the country. Years prior, accidents led to an average
of nine deaths a year. In 2010, the number was 16.
According to statistics compiled by Vodácké školy záchrany there are around 150 sluices in the country which are dangerous.
Canoeing, kayaking and rafting have a strong tradition in the Czech Republic but flipping in a canoe going down a sluice can easily end in tragedy, organizers warned. Some sluices can be very difficult to escape from, once in the water.
President Miloš Zeman will receive the prime minister in resignation
Andrej Babiš on Sunday to be updated on the state of coalition government
negotiations. Mr Babiš, tasked with a second attempt at forming a viable
government, so far has not been successful in reaching an agreement with
possible coalition partners.
The head of state previously urged the prime minister to negotiate with the Communists and the anti-Islam and anti-migrant Freedom and Direct Democracy. Following talks on Thursday, however, ANO did an about-face with the intention of reopening talks with the Social Democrats. Last week negotiations with the Social Democrats over a possible minority government fell apart over demands for certain portfolios.
The head of the Social Democrats, Jan Hamáček, has also asked to meet with the head of state.
A meeting between ANO and the Social Democrats renewing the possibility of
cooperation in a future minority government has been scheduled for Monday
evening, following a working trip to Karlovy Vary by the prime minister.
Prime Minister in resignation Andrej Babiš confirmed the news, adding he
hoped that a solution would be found quickly.
Last week, talks between party representatives collapsed after ANO refused
to give up either the Finance Ministry or Interior Ministry portfolio.
The Social Democrats had sought the Interior Ministry, it was reported, as a counterbalance to Mr Babiš remaining prime minister, as he faces charges for alleged EU subsidy fraud.
The prime minister did not say on Friday whether the Interior Ministry portfolio would be offered.
Horní police, a town of 700 in the district of Česka Lípa, has made a
Pornhub list of towns offered premium access to its site because of its
suggestive place name. The site offered residents a million hours of free
pornography in what is being viewed as a savvy but also provocative
The story was reported by the Czech news site iDnes reported Friday.
The town apparently qualified because the name can be read as “horny police” in English.
In Czech it literally means top or upper shelf.
The site, tongue-in-cheek, has listed numerous towns and municipalities around the world as worthy of “compensation for embarrassing place names”, including Horneytown, North Carolina, and Threeway, Virginia, in the United States.
