Třinec have won the Czech ice hockey Extraliga after beating Liberec 4:2
on Sunday evening to achieve the same result on games in the best-of-seven
final series of the competition’s playoffs.
It is the second time Třinec have lifted the title in their history and comes eight years after their first triumph. Liberec were losing finalists for the second year in a row.
Olympic champion speed skater Martina Sáblíková broke her own world
record in the 3,000m race on Saturday at the ISU World Cup Finals in Salt
Lake City, USA.
She clocked in at 3:52.027, eclipsing her prior mark of 3:53.31 from last week in Calgary.
This is the third world record in 10 days for the 31-year-old athlete, the Czech Republic’s first to win two gold medals at a single Olympic Winter Games back in 2010.
Czech speed skater Martina Sáblíková won her fifth combined world
championship title in Calgary on Sunday. The long-distance specialist won
the women’s final 5000-metre race in six minutes, 42 seconds, beating her
own record set in 2011.
The 31-year-old Sáblíková beat her nearest rival Miho Tagaki, in second place, by around 20 seconds to secure the combined title.
