The 38th annual Summer Film School festival, that took place in Uherské
Hradiště last week, attracted over 5000 visitors. This year’s program
was mainly focused on Hungarian film and the history of movies in general. More

My guests today are two members of the Czech band called Charlie Straight.
They are a group from the town of Třinec, and were founded in 2006. But,
they don’t play Czech folk music or Czech rock music – they play
English Britpop and they even sing in English. More
Exhibition marks 10th anniversary of devastating floods
In this week’s Arts my guest is Czech Photo’s Daniela Mrázková, the
curator of an exhibition marking 10 years since the 2002 floods that
devastated Prague and other parts of the Czech Republic. Based on an
earlier show of works by some of the country’s best photographers, the
exhibition is also accompanied by a brand-new book. More

The Czech music group Charlie Straight is in London set to perform at the
Czech House cultural centre on the eve of the start of the Olympic Games. More
Czech House in London ready to receive Olympic visitors
With just a day remaining to the start of the 2012 Olympic Games in London,
the Czech House is getting ready to receive its first visitors. Located in
the trendy area of Islington, the Czech House will offer a series of
programmes including concerts, exhibits and film screenings, as well as
opportunities to meet some of the Czech athletes competing in the Games.
But even before the Games began, the venue is already drawing crowds of
people who come to see one of the most original artifacts dedicated to the
2012 Olympics – a red double-decker bus doing push-ups. Jan Richter

Černý’s ‘London Booster’ a major attraction at Czech House
A new work by renowned Czech artist David Černý has gone on display at
the Czech House in Islington, London to coincide with the Olympic Games.
Entitled ‘London Booster’, the work features a converted red
double-decker... doing push-ups! The six-tonne mechanical sculpture even
audibly grunts and groans as it lifts itself off the ground, making it a
perfect draw for the upcoming Olympics. More

careers of several singers, most notably that of the competition’s winner

Nepraš retrospective at DOX Gallery
In this week’s Arts I talk to Markéta Stará of the DOX Gallery about
the retrospective of work by one of the greatest 20th century Czech artists
Karel Nepraš. The show, features many of Nepraš’ famous metal works but
also drawings and work in porcelain, is highly recommended. More
US metal singer arrested in Prague on manslaughter charges “awaiting release” on bail
The singer of the US heavy metal band Lamb of God, Randy Blythe, who was
arrested in Prague last month on manslaughter charges, is awaiting release
from prison. On Wednesday, the Prague Municipal Court doubled Mr Blythe’s
original bail of 200,000 US dollars, which has already been raised by the
band. The singer faces accusations that during the band’s 2010 Prague
concert, he pushed a 19-year-old fan off the stage who later succumbed to
his injuries. Mr Blythe’s Czech attorney, Martin Radvan, says the heavy
metal singer should be out of jail any day now. More
