In tennis, two-times Davis Cup winner Radek Štěpánek has officially
announced the end of his professional career. The 38-year-old, a former
eighth best singles tennis player of the world and a bronze medalist in
mixed doubles from the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.
In 2006, he advanced to the Wimbledon quarterfinal. In total, he gained five ATP titles. In doubles, he won two grand slam tournaments. Along with Indian Leander Paes, he was the winner of the Australian Open 2012 and the US Open 2013.

Andrea Hlavackova and Timea Babos won the WTA doubles title in Singapore for the first time after a brilliant three-set win over Kiki Bertens and Johanna Larsson. The Czech-Hungarian duo beat unseeded Kiki Bertens and Johanna Larsson 4-6, 6-4, 10-5. It is the pair's fifth trophy of the year; they teamed up for the first time in May.
In tennis, Czech women’s number one Karolína Plíšková has failed to
make it into the final of the end of season WTA Finals.
She lost in straight sets to Carolina Wozniacki 6:7, 3:6 in the semi-final.
The loss means Plíšková cannot regain the number one spot in the WTA rankings she held earlier this year. Plíšková could have ended the year in top spot if she triumphed in the Singapore tournament.
The result means Romanian Simona Halep will gain the top spot.
In tennis, Czech player Karolína Plíšková has suffered her first defeat in the end of season WTA Finals tournament being staged in Singapore. The top Czech women’s singles player was defeated by Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko 3:6, 1:6. After winning her first two matches in the opening group, Plíšková had already secured her place in the next round.

The Czech had previously swept past Venus Williams of the US in her first outing in Singapore and has now come first in the White Group. The prestigious WTA Finals brings together the top eight players in women’s tennis.
This year Plíšková became world number one for the first time and currently stands at third in the rankings.
Czech tennis player Barbora Strýcová has won a second WTA singles title in her career. In the final round of WTA event in Linz on Sunday, the Czech No.2 seed defeated Magdalena Rybáriková of Slovakia, 6-4, 6-1. The 31-year-old Czech last claimed a WTA title in 2011, when she won at the WTA Bell Challenge Tournament in Quebec City.
