A Czech Airlines flight to Moscow was forced to turn back due to a
technical defect early on Sunday, the ctk news agency reported.
The plane returned to Prague’s Vaclav Havel Airport after the pilot reported a technical problem, fully in line with regulations, a Czech Airlines spokesman said.
The passengers boarded another plane for Moscow two hours later. The character of the technical problem was not specified.
The Czech airline Travel Service has said it has acquired a majority stake
in the Czech national carrier, Czech Airlines (ČSA).
The firm, the Czech News Agency reported, reached a deal to buy shares from Korean Air and state-owned company Prisko. The sale, however, will still need final approval from the country’s anti-monopoly office.
If the deal goes through it will give Travel Service an almost 98 percent stake and a fleet of more than 80 airplanes.
A top level meeting has been convened by the Czech government to try and calm an explosive situation between Prague’s licenced tax drivers and self employed drivers using the Uber application. The hastily convened meeting follows a go slow protest in the capital at the start of the week which snarled up traffic in the centre and to the international airport.
A Czech motorist, alleged to have caused a fatal head-on collision near
Nelahozeves near Mělník, has died in hospital. The accident took place on
Tuesday evening, when the driver, at the wheel of a Škoda Superb, ignored
a solid line and moved into the oncoming lane to pass a slower vehicle.
A 31-year-old mother of two in the other carwas killed instantly; her children suffered serious injuries and are in hospital.
The district court in Pelhřimov on Wednesday heard testimony from expert
witnesses and defendant Petr
Weiss, charged with causing the deaths of two people and seriously
injuring a third person in a car crash in 2016.
The prosecution is seeking almost 20 million crowns in damages on the behalf of the bereaved.
The defendant told the court he had no recollection of the accident; if found guilty, the well-known sexologist and public figure could face up to six years behind bars.
There were 47 deaths on Czech roads in September, five fewer than during
the same month a year earlier and the lowest number since statistics have
been kept in recent times.
Since the start of the year, 376 people have been killed in road accidents. That is 19 less than in the first nine months of 2016. The figures are still preliminary with police due to release the official results during the next week.
The worst September according to recent figures was in 1997 when 149 died on the roads.
Around 90.9 million rail journeys were made in the Czech Republic in the
first half of 2017, according to figures released on Tuesday by the
Ministry of Transport. The number was 1.7 million higher than for the same
period the previous year. The total distance covered by passengers rose
more sharply, by 6.5 percent.
The figure for bus journeys in the Czech Republic in the January to July period remained at 173 million, according to the transport ministry.
The country's Transport Ministry is planning on investing roughly 14
billion crowns in water transport up to 2023, according to a proposal to be
discussed by the government at its regular cabinet meeting on Monday.
The long-term strategic plan would extend waterways on the Vltava and Labe Rivers to 338 kilometres.
Under changes, large vessels would be able to pass through Prague all the way up to Radotín, while the Labe water route would end in Pardubice.
The Office for the Protection of Competition has canceled a tender for the modernization of part of railway infrastructure in Prague for 3.5 billion crowns on the grounds that the SŽDC, the body which oversees railway infrastructure, breached the law on public tenders. The decision, which is binding, was published on the antimonopoly office's website.
