The Road and Rail Directorate has started dismantling billboards along the
country’s highways and main roads that are in violation of a new law on
safety, the ctk news agency reported.
The law, which came into force on September 1st, bans advertisement billboards within 250 meters from main roads and highways.
The legislation has met with strong opposition from outdoor advertising operators some of whom attempted to bypass it by replacing advertisements with gigantic Czech flags and other non-commercial posters.
The Road and Rail Directorate says it has counted around 500 billboards in violation of the law which will now be dismantled.
A 1.0 billion crown investment in the Czech Republic to launch production
of what claims to be a revolutionary battery should begin by the middle of
October, say the investment group behind it.
Construction of the factory to produce the HE3DA battery should begin near the eastern Czech town of Havířov on October 16. The investment is being backed by a group of investors called Battery Unite.
The Czech inventor behind the battery says that its sandwich structure of layers give it a revolutionary performance compared with conventional batteries and could revolutionise the global energy scene thanks to its relatively low manufacturing costs and high performance.
The German supermarket Lidl has launched an e-shop for the Czech Republic.
It is the German retailer’s first e-shop shop in Central and Eastern
The online store offers consumer goods that will be delivered within three days. No food items are currently on offer. Customers can already buy from Lidl e-shops in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.
These stores also supply consumer goods plus packaged foods and beverages. All Lidl e-shops are being supplied from a new 44,000 square meter logistics center in Pilsen that opened last November.
A Chinese tire manufacturer plans to build a plant in the Moravian-Silesian
region, President Milos Zeman said during a visit to the region on Tuesday.
Mr. Zeman said he had negotiated with a Chinese company the size of Nexen which wanted to invest in the industrial zone Triangl. According to the president the investment should create 1,500 to 2,000 new jobs.
Although he failed to name the company, the ctk news agency says that billion crown investor could be Linglong Tire which had previously shown an interest in investing in the Czech Republic.
Cardinal Dominik Duka has criticized the German supermarket Lidl for
erasing crosses on top of an iconic Greek church from its food packaging.
In a letter to the Greek ambassador to the Czech Republic, Duka said it was an unprecedented and uncivilized act. He also warned that the removal of real crosses from churches could follow.
The supermarket giant digitally removed several crosses on the Greek Orthodox building in Santorini from products in its own-label Greek food range which is sold all around Europe.
Lidl representatives said they avoided the use of religious symbols because they didn't want to exclude any religious beliefs.
