beers can actually be bought for less in neighbouring Germany.

Czech bee population decimated by parasite
Czech bee colonies have been stung by a warmer-than-usual winter. The balmy
temperatures in the Czech Republic over the last couple of months have
provided an ideal breeding ground for a parasite which has been wreaking
havoc on the country’s bee population. Experts predict that up to half
of
the Czech Republic’s bees could have been wiped out. More
Olomoucké tvarůžky will not receive protected status from EU for time being
Olomoucké tvarůžky – famous yellow cheeses produced in the Olomouc
region in the Czech Republic – are instantly recognisable for their odour
and gummy texture: they are most definitely an acquired taste. But they are
also a product of which many Czechs are justifiably proud. Since 2004,
representatives have sought EU protection recognising the tvarůžky as a
distinct local specialty, something which is not going to happen, at least
not yet.

New Pilsner Urquell guidebook ranks top establishments
It’s something of a Czech tradition: fans of Czech beer Plzeňský
Prazdroj (Pilsner Urquell) debating which pubs have the best Pilsner on
tap. Now the debate may see a little “closure”. On Monday the famous
brewer launched a flashy new guidebook ranking the best Pilsner-serving
establishments. Interestingly, the book is based on rankings not by
professional critics but by regular pub-goers. More
