Holocaust Memorial Day and the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz

AuschwitzAuschwitz Since 2004 Holocaust Memorial Day has been officially marked in the Czech Republic. It falls on 27th January, the day when Auschwitz was liberated by the Red Army in 1945.

During the German occupation of the Czech Lands more than 77,000 Czech and Moravian Jews were murdered. At least 6,000 Czech Roma were also murdered. Only a small percentage of Jewish and Romany Czechs survived the Holocaust.
