Tuesday 25th anniversary of sale of first mobile phones in Czechoslovakia

Tuesday is the 25th anniversary of the sale of the first mobile telephones in the then Czechoslovakia, Czech Radio reported. The country’s first mobile network was launched the same day. The first mobile phone on the market was the Nokia MD59, which cost CZK 60,000. The device weighed four kilogrammes and had a battery life of only a few minutes. Today there are around 14 million active SIM cards in the Czech Republic, which has a population of 10.5 million.
