NHL: Sýkora earns first career hat-trick in 9:2 romp

Pittsburgh forward Petr Sýkora notched up his first NHL career hat-trick on Thursday in the Penguins’ 9:2 romp over the New York Islanders. Pascal Dupuis also had a hat-trick on the night. Sýkora has come close to earning hat-tricks before, scoring twice on 38 different occasions - but the key third goal had eluded him until now.

In other action, Columbus forward Jakub Voráček scored the decider in penalties against Nashville, the final score 2:1. And, Zbyněk Michálek scored the opening goal of the night for Phoenix against Minnesota. Phoenix went on to win 3:1.
