Business News Unavailable statistical data might hamper EU accession

22-08-2002 | Vladimír Tax

One of the institutions seriously affected by floods has been the Czech Statistics Office - a key source of information for both the state and business sector. These days, the statisticians were supposed to publish GDP figures for the first half of the year without which the government cannot finalise the draft state budget for next year. The current unavailability of statistical data might also hamper the Czech Republic's accession to the EU as the country is required to regularly submit GDP growth figures. Besides that, the Czech Republic will not get a single euro of aid from Brussels without precise and reliable information about flood damage.
