The jazz and classical music festival Struny podzimu, or Strings of Autumn, opens in Prague on Tuesday night with a special performance by the Czech avant garde musician Iva Bittová. She will be accompanied at the Estate’s Theatre by jazz musicians and – for the first time – the Prague Philharmonic.

Bringing something new to Prague audiences is what distinguishes the Strings of Autumn, says its artistic director Marek Vrabec.

“I believe the difference is in the programming, because we really want to present unique programming. Each of our concerts should be a premiere, or a debut in Prague. So the density of premieres or original projects staged during the festival is, from my point of view, higher than for other festivals.”

“We asked Michael York to come to Prague and perform a Richard Strauss melodrama called Enoch Arden. It’s a beautiful poem by Lord Tennyson, and Michael York is going to be the narrator for this evening. And Libor Nováček, a very talented young Czech pianist, is going to play the piano part.”
