On the programme are meetings with his Czech counterpart Mirek Topolanek, and the nation’s president, Vaclav Klaus. While the heads of state and government are expected to discuss Turkey’s bid to join the EU, and Czech-Turkish trade relations, Radio Prague asked a member of the Turkish community here in the city for his views on these subjects, and how they affect his everyday life. Roman Zuzuk Roman Zuzuk is a Ukrainian born artist who runs a gallery with his brother Miroslav in Prague's Mala Strana. Roman studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kiev, and came to Prague in 1991 to begin painting professionally. His work features colourful dreamscapes and illogical scenarios, musical themes and interaction between humans and animals. Roman lived in Prague until January 2000 and now resides in Toronto, Canada. He comes back here every year to visit the city, and his gallery. That's where I caught up with him a few days ago.  More

Photo: European Commission The lower house of parliament this week approved an amendment to the foreigners' law tightening the rules under which foreigners can apply for permanent residence or asylum in the Czech Republic. The move comes ahead of the country's planned entry to the Schengen border-free zone in December of this year.  More
