Another Czech sporting great, ice hockey forward Jaromir Jagr, played his 1,000th NHL game on Friday, though the game could have gone better for the famous no. 68. In football, Jiri Stajner has joined Sparta Prague on loan from Hanover, while other Czech players had mixed fortunes as the Bundesliga started again.  More

Neumannova wins two World Cup, photo: CTK Czech cross-country skier Katerina Neummanova has done it again, winning her second World Cup race in a row, just six months after having a baby. Ilona Hlavackova has been named Czech Swimmer of the Year. There has been a great deal of speculation over whether Czech international football goalkeeper Petr Cech would sign for English glamour club Chelsea. Rene Bolf, meanwhile, is definitely joining Auxerre. And ice hockey goaltender Roman Malek has been let go by Slavia Prague, half a season after helping the club to an historic Extraliga title.  More

Leading Czech athlete Roman Sebrle has taken part in an unusual event - a complete decathlon not over the regular two days but in just 100 minutes! The Czech Republic's men's volleyball team have something to celebrate after reaching the sport's World League finals in Madrid next month. And in tennis news, Jiri Novak's coach says the Czech no. 1 may retire next year and Martina Narvratilova has made a call for smaller tennis rackets.  More

Sparta Prague's Jiri Jarosik has made a big-money transfer to CSKA Moscow football club, and stands to become the biggest star in the Russian league.
