There are also several internet websites and email newsletters, such as the weekly Dumpling News; it is produced by Zora Pergl, a woman of Czech descent based in Florida. This week hundreds of thousands of Czech Americans will open envelopes from the Czech Embassy in Washington asking them to join a campaign to abolish US visas for Czech citizens. For years the Czech Republic has striven to be included in the US waiver programme, which would put relations on an equal footing, but so far in vain. Now it is asking Czech ex-pats in the United States to bring the matter to the attention of their congressmen. Some 300,000 out of those have Czech citizenship and are therefore entitled to elect deputies to the lower house of the Czech parliament. It was not always the case. Czechs living abroad had their first chance to vote in the previous election four years ago after a law had been passed to that effect. But fewer than 4,000 of them turned up to cast their ballots at the Czech Republic's embassies and consulates around the world. Expectations are similar this time around.  More

Charlotta Kotik In Czechs Today I am delighted to introduce Charlotta Kotik, the Curator of Contemporary Art at the world-renowned Brooklyn Museum of Art in New York City. Energetic and quick on her feet, she encouraged me to stay for a meeting she had with an artist to discuss a future project. A painter showed sketches of iconic figures, such as Vincent Van Gogh, interpreted by an autistic student he works with. Their conversation was just the beginning of creating a future exhibit.  More
