The drawn-out debate over the construction of a futuristic building
colloquially known as “the Blob” originally meant to house the Czech
National Library in Prague has taken a new turn. Designed by the late
Czech-born London-based architect Jan Kaplický, the huge green and purple
structure divided public opinion when it won an international competition
in 2007 and the project was finally scuppered. Now, more than four years

Current AffairsWork of the first Bohemian printers on display in National Library
The National Library is currently holding a special exhibit of the work of
the first printing press in Bohemia. The seven original works made by
anonymous printers in Plzeň in the late 15th century have been out of the
public eye for 34 years. Foremost among them is the Trojan Chronicle, which
for more than a hundred years has been at the centre of debate over when
Czechs first began printing.
