Czechs are expected to spend 300 million crowns this year on buying erotic items on the Internet, according to research by the price web server Heureka.cz. That is around a fifth higher than last year. Apparently, the demand for S&M articles has soared followed the success of the book and film Fifty Shades of Grey.
The Czech Photo Gallery at Prague’s Újezd this week launched the first in a series of “Best of” exhibitions beginning with the Nude. Curators for the opening show chose work by five well-known photographers, the late Taras Kuščynskyj, Jan Saudek, Robert Vano, Pavel Brunclík and Antonín Tesař. The nudes range from lyrical and romantic, to erotic and homoerotic, and relatively brutal and decadent.
More than 180 designs by secondary school and university students from around the Czech Republic competed in the 20th annual National Student Design Awards that were handed out in Prague last week. The main prize went to Anna Marešová, a post-graduate student at the UJEP university in Ústí nad Labem, for a set of vibrators called Whoop De Doo. The 20th annual National Student Design Award was on Wednesday presented to Anna Marešová for her set of vibrators for women called Whoop De Doo. The jury said her work represented a modern functional design, and appreciated products’ practicality as well as the author’s courage and sophistication. Other awards went to students who designed a lamp in for growing plants, a road bridge, a Braille book and other things. All nominated objects will go on display in a gallery and a shopping mall in Prague.

A Czech website offers audioerotic stories for the blind, the news website ihned.cz reported on Sunday. The website currently hosts two audio stories, entitled “Excursion” and “Classmates” and narrated by acting students from Brno. Four more stories are being prepared. To access them, customers have to confirm they are adults and send a text message worth 30 crown, or 2 U.S. dollars. Michal Kuchař, one of the authors of the project, who also teaches psychology for the blind at a Brno university, said this was one of the ways of getting rid of sexual taboos in blind people’s lives.
