Jaromir Jagr, meanwhile, has topped a table of the highest earning hockey players of all time. Another Czech sporting great, ice hockey forward Jaromir Jagr, played his 1,000th NHL game on Friday, though the game could have gone better for the famous no. 68. In football, Jiri Stajner has joined Sparta Prague on loan from Hanover, while other Czech players had mixed fortunes as the Bundesliga started again.  More

Jaromir Jagr, photo: CTK The Czech ice hockey megastar Jaromir Jagr has left Washington for the New York Rangers. However, Jagr's first game for Rangers saw them being thrashed in a game the player described as a "kick in the behind". Jiri Novak bowed out in the third round of tennis's Australian Open, despite having led 2:0 on sets against Pavel of Romania. Katerina Holubcova has come second in a Biathlon World Cup event while Ales Valenta has won the second World Cup event of his career in freestyle aerial skiing.  More
