It's just a few weeks now before November 17th, the seventeenth anniversary
of the beginning of the Velvet Revolution, when peaceful demonstrations by
hundreds of thousands of people brought the country's communist regime to
its knees. Seventeen years on, coming to terms with the past is still
difficult. One problem is the country's schoolbooks, which give only the
briefest glimpse of the indignities and cruelties of the communist era.
But the Czech NGO People in Need is trying to change all that.

On Thursday evening, the closing ceremonies of Prague's One World
documentary film festival honoured Swiss director Eric Bergkraut's film,
"Coca: The Dove from Chechnya" with the Rudolf Vrba Award, for
the best film in the category of Right to Know. Now in its 8th year, this
year the One World festival screened 118 films from 40 different

On Wednesday the seventh year of the human rights' documentary film
festival "One World" began in Prague. It is organized by the
Czech humanitarian organization "People in Need", and over seven
days it will feature 120 documentary films from 35 countries.

festival begins in Prague. Last year, Jeden Svet or One World attracted
22,500 people. With 156 screenings, festival organizers hope to see 60,000
