Slavia Prague - Hame Zlin, photo: CTK Prague's new state-of-the-art ice hockey arena saw its first game on Sunday, when Slavia Prague took on Hame Zlin in the third game of the Extraliga playoff finals. In the NHL, Patrik Elias was the Czech player with the most points in the regular season. In football news, Sparta Prague have played their first game under new coach, and former Sparta star, Frantisek Straka. Elsewhere, Ostrava slipped up at Zlin while Olomouc have gone second, at least for a short time.  More

Slavia - Banik, photo: CTK The race for the Czech football championship is hotting up, with Slavia closing the gap on leaders Ostrava by beating them 2:0 away. Sparta Prague manager Jiri Kotrba has been fined for swearing - his bad language was clearly audible on television. Both ice hockey Extraliga playoffs are 2:1 on games. In skiing slalom ace Sarka Zahrobska has won two medals at the national championships, while cross country star Martin Koukal has won a Czech Olympic Committee award for the best sporting achievement of 2003.  More

Czech football league leaders Banik Ostrava have been beaten by bottom of the table Blsany, while defending champions Sparta slipped up at Ceske Budejovice, allowing a resurgent Slavia to go second. Milan Baros has returned from injury in style with a goal in his first league game, while his Czech international team-mate Tomas Rosicky is out with a broken arm. In ice hockey, Pilsen whupped Kladno to take the last place in the playoffs and Czech star Robert Lang has gotten off to a great start at new club Detroit.  More

Katerina Neummanova, photo: CTK Cross country skier Katerina Neummanova has won yet another World Cup race, her fourth in seven starts. Lukas Bauer was less fortunate in Sweden on Saturday, when instead of making for the finishing line he went the wrong way! Sparta Prague and Teplice could only manage 0:0 draws in the Czech football league at the weekend, poor preparation for their mid-week European ties. The Czech ice hockey Extraliga is hotting up as the play-offs approach, and some big stars have expressed interest in playing for the Czech Republic at the World Championships in April.  More

Radek Stepanek, photo: CTK The Czech Republic have been beaten 3:2 by Spain in the first round of this season's Davis Cup, after Czech number one Jiri Novak suffered a groin strain. Czech ice hockey coach Slavomir Lener says he was pleased with how his team played at the Swedish Games, the last tournament before May's World Championships. Cross country skier Katerina Neumannova has won yet another World Cup event, this time the 10 kilometre free in the French Alps. Athlete Roman Sebrle has started the season in style and Czech footballers made their mark in Europe at the weekend.  More

Tatra truck in the Paris to Dakar Rally , photo: CTK Just weeks after joining Sparta Prague, 21-year-old striker Jan Rezek made a dream debut on Tuesday, when he scored two goals. The next day the younger Gluscevic brother at the club also made his mark by netting two. After winning the latest stage of the Dakar Rally, six-time winner Karel Loprais is currently third overall in the truck category in a Czech-made Tatra. Jiri Novak is in good form ahead of tennis's Australian Open. And will Czech ice hockey fans get to see stars Jagr and Lang in action at the World Championships?  More
