The 62nd annual Cannes film festival has come to a close and things
couldn’t have gone better for Czech filmmakers. First, young filmmaker
Zuzana Špidlová’s 21-minute short feature Bába was voted best film in
the Cinefondation section, recognising young new talent; and the seasoned
Czech documentary filmmaker Helena Třeštíková clinched the Media
European Talent award.

One on OneIvo Anderle – operator of Prague’s leading arthouse cinemas
Ivo Anderle operates Prague’s two leading arthouse cinemas, Aero, in the
Žižkov district of the city, and Světozor, a few metres from Wenceslas
Square. In recent years he has entered the distribution business with
Aerofilms, whose biggest success to date has been the documentary Citizen
Havel, recently voted best Czech film of the last two decades by a poll of
industry figures in Reflex magazine.

It seems hard to believe, but one of the leading personalities of the Czech
film business, director Věra Chytilová, turned 80 on Monday.
Congratulations poured in from colleagues, actors, critics and even
President Vaclav Klaus. On the occasion of her jubilee Věra Chytilová was
awarded a golden plaque for her lifelong contribution to Czech film.

Ester Krumbachová, an artist, costume designer, screenwriter, and one of
the most important personalities of the Czech New Wave. Although her name

filmmakers of the 1960s, such as Věra Chytilová, Jan Němec or Vojtěch
Jasný.
