SpotlightThe Museum of Decorative Arts – a must-see destination for fans of Czech design
Lovers of Czech applied arts and design will find a veritable treasure
trove of interesting items, ranging from glass wares to clocks and metal
works, in Prague’s Museum of Decorative Arts. Located right across the
street from the well-known Rudolfinum palace, the museum is housed in a
stunning Neo-Renaissance building. It was one of the last in Prague to be
designed in that style. The architect was Josef Schulz, who also was behind

One on OneAnna Marešová, the designer of award-winning Whoop De Doo sex toys
More than 180 designs by secondary school and university students from
around the Czech Republic competed in the 20th annual National Student
Design Awards that were handed out in Prague last week. The main prize went
to Anna Marešová, a post-graduate student at the UJEP university in
Ústí nad Labem, for a set of vibrators called Whoop De Doo. The sleek,
hypermodern sex toys, complete with chargers, charmed the jury which
appreciated the author’s innovative and daring approach. In this edition
of One on One, Anna Marešová talks about her award-wining Whoop De Doo
vibrators, her inspiration and some of her other work. I first asked her

One on OneEva Eislerová – Czech designer who reached top of jewellery world in NYC
The Czech artist and designer Eva Eislerová originally wanted to be an
architect. Instead, she became one of the most highly regarded makers of
art jewellery in the world, after emigrating to New York in the 1980s with
her half-Czech, half-English husband, John Eisler. Today Eva Eisler, as she
is known to her collectors, spends most of her time back home in Prague,
where she teaches at the metals department at the Academy of Arts,
Architecture and Design. More

Current AffairsPrague hosts Designblok 2010
This week Prague is hosting its biggest annual festival of design. Now in
its twelfth year, Designblok brings more than 200 presentations of new
designs, as well as exhibitions, fashion shows and lectures taking place in
selected showrooms, boutiques, and galleries all over the city. It has
become a tradition that the centre of the exhibition programme, the so
called “Superstudio”, is located at a different place each year. Ruth
Fraňková spoke to Jana Zielinski, the director of Designblok, to find out
