permit to hold a march through Prague's historic Jewish quarter. What's
really incredible is the date the far-right group's demonstration is set to
take place: the anniversary of the notorious Nazi pogrom known as
Kristallnacht. And to cap it all, the Prague Town Hall seems to have no
legal means of stopping the march.

distributed to police stations around, the country to help the force
identify extremist organisations. The manual contains brief descriptions
of symbols and introduces police officers to whether their use on clothes
and posters etc is legal. The ministry has printed 15,000 copies and, as

In the course of the last decade the Czech police force has increasingly
been confronted with various forms of extremism and street violence. And
more often than not it has been criticized for either failing to take
action or over-reacting. The Interior Ministry says it is training
officers to deal with such situations and has now issued a manual to help
them recognize various extremist symbols.
